Volunteer with American Red Cross to Make a Difference

American Red Cross needs your help! During large disasters, you can support the day-to-day activities within a shelter which may include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information, or other areas within a shelter. If the need arises, volunteers who travel outside of their local area are asked to commit to at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts. (Volunteers who volunteer locally are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each). Free training is provided. Travel, lodging and meals are provided for deployed workers. Previously held biweekly as "2W@10," these special events are held from 10:00am – 11:30am each Wednesday where we do fun activities to help local nonprofits. And what’s extra special about these Wednesday events? Our guests of honor are wonderful and fun volunteers with some developmental challenges who want to give back and help others, in groups and as individuals. The accessible activities we'll do on Wednesdays are specifically designed with these guests in mind, so that everyone can participate and have fun volunteering - because we believe very strongly that absolutely everyone has something to give. Become a Foster Grandparent with the San Gabriel Pomona Parents’ Place Family Resource and Empowerment Center

The Foster Grandparent Program began in 1965 with 800 volunteers in more than 45 institutions. Today nearly 30,000 volunteers help more than 280,000 children through CNCS nationwide network of organizations. Currently at SGPRC our volunteers serve over 100 children with special needs daily. They help to mentor, train, coach and become a friend and companion to the students. The 1:1 attention that the children receive makes a huge difference academically for them.
