Prepare & Serve Delicious Meals at Downtown Women’s Center

DWC’s Kitchen served over 260,000 meals in 2020 alone: their incredible Kitchen team serves three nutritious meals seven days a week and offers an important space for women and gender-diverse individuals to connect and to share a meal with each other. Kitchen volunteers help with meal preparation (e.g. chopping and measuring); help keep the kitchen clean and organized (e.g. wiping counters, organizing the food pantry and cabinets); and serve delicious meals to participants. Kitchen volunteering is a great fit for volunteers who like working in a team while also interacting with DWC participants. Volunteers must be 18 or older.

Join Alexandria’s House Top Chef Volunteer-led, Community-Buidling Food Program

Top Chef is a volunteer-led, community-building food program for the women and families in Alexandria House's Transitional Housing Program. They truly believe that enjoying a meal together creates lasting fellowship for their participants and volunteers. They recognize that their participants may have ruptured familial relationships, and they strive to promote a communal environment through the preparation and sharing of meals. Top Chef allows the families in their program to receive support and a “night off” from cooking, to enjoy a stress-free meal with their children. Top Chef also exposes these women and their families to a wide variety of ethnic food cultures and traditions, thereby expanding their worldly perspectives of food and nutrition.
