Volunteer or Donate for United Station Homeless Services’ Adopt-A-Meal Program

Union Station Homeless Services relies on the support of volunteer groups to provide daily home-cooked meals to shelter residents and community members in need. If your family, corporation, or civic group would like to cook or donate a meal at one of their shelters, consider sponsoring an Adopt-a-Meal! You can cook at home, use one of their kitchens, buy food from a restaurant and drop it off at their location, donate ingredients, or even donate a gift card to Smart and Final. There are so many ways to help! Volunteers must be 13 years old to participate with a chaperone or 16 years old to participate without one. Become a Community Ally at Union Station Homeless Services

The purpose of our Community Allies Program is to support their neighbors as they transition into housing. By fostering one-on-one relationships and social networks, they hope to combat isolation to support wellness and housing stability. This year, despite the challenges of the pandemic, Community Allies continued to change lives. The program kept residents in their supportive housing programs connected in small in-person groups and virtually. Activities included book club, picnics in the park, yoga, and more. Volunteers must be at least 25 years old; Complete program orientation and training (and supplemental trainings); Complete a LiveScan State and Federal background check; Provide proof of COVID-19 Vaccination; Commit to the program for 12 months; Meet with your participant at least twice a month; Have reliable personal transportation or access to public transportation; Have a computer and internet access to log volunteer hours and complete Session notes; Have not received services or participated in a USHS program in the past year. All donations are accepted at Union Station Homeless Services' Adult Center (412 S. Raymond Ave, Pasadena) every day of the week between 8:00am - 4:00pm. Items can also be purchased through their Amazon or Target wishlist and delivered directly to their facility. Donations are accepted until November 14th. Donate Gifts to Union Station Homeless Services’ Holiday Drive

Every year, Union Station Homeless Services, holds an annual holiday gift drive to collect toys, books, socks, and gift cards to provide holiday cheer to all our clients living in their housing sites. They could use the community's support in collecting holiday gifts for all their residents. All donations can be accepted at their Admin Office (825 E. Volunteer to Prepare and Serve Meals with Union Rescue Mission (Hope Gardens)

Hope Gardens Family Center provides 3 hot meals per day to all guests. Volunteers are needed to help prepare and set-up for each meal, serve, as well as assist in the clean-up process. Create Laundry Kits with Project Ropa

Help create laundry kits for Project Ropa to directly distribute to people experiencing homelessness in the Los Angeles area. This is a great activity for children to get involved with. In a sandwich size ziploc bag include the following items: a laundry detergent pod (individual dry pack) and fabric softener sheets. Optional: A handwritten note or drawing which can be seasonal appropriate for an upcoming holiday. Once completed you can mail your kits to them at: Project Ropa, 2851 W 120th Street, Suite E #566, Hawthorne, CA 90250. Alternatively, they accept donation drop offs at their warehouse on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am-3pm and on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 10am-1pm. Help Distribute Hygiene Essentials to the Unhoused with Project Ropa

Project Ropa operates the only Mobile Clothing Closet of its kind in the Los Angeles area. Their retrofitted van delivers hope as well as hygiene kits, drinking water and a full selection of men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories all neatly displayed on racks and shelves to unhoused and low-income individuals and families at service sites in Echo Park and Hollywood. At each location they operate in tandem with other mobile service providers which include showers, haircuts, ID replacement, food pantries, medical and dental clinics and employment and housing resources. In Echo Park, their events take place on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of each month. Volunteers will help with distributing clothing and personal hygiene essentials directly to those in need at their service locations. Project Ropa staff will be on-site at all times during services.
