Face Paint at the Los Angeles 2019 Turkey Trot

The Celiac Disease Foundation is excited to host its 2nd Annual Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run/Walk at the Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Recreation Center. The Turkey Trot provides the opportunity for families to connect with others in the celiac disease community and raise awareness for this serious disease. They are looking for someone with experience in painting, particularly face painting, to join them for the CDF Los Angeles Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run/Walk! They are expecting around 125 people at the event, although not everyone will participate in face painting. It is a family-friendly event with kids who will enjoy having their face painted. Dance the Night Away with BCR “a place to grow”

BCR “a place to grow” is a nonprofit organization that offers day programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Its mission is to enable its participants to develop their abilities so they may become independent and contributing members of the community. Come dance and make new friends at their Dance the Night Away with the theme Harvest Moon. Volunteers for this project must be at least 16 years of age, be comfortable socializing and dancing with special needs populations, and bring an outgoing attitude and be ready to have a ton of fun! Volunteers also assist with set-up and serving drinks and food. Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring the Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors form found on L.A. Join Child Care Resource Center for their 5th Annual Victor Valley Play Day

Since 1976, the Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) has been working to support the community in all matters related to early childhood education and care. On Saturday, Novemberember 16 there will be over 40 vendors from the local community helping creating a great day filled with community resources, fun activities, an obstacle course, including a reptile exhibit! Volunteer at “Community At Large” Event with Valley Village

On Saturday, Novemberember 16, 2019, Valley Village will be proudly hosting "Community At Large," a special day for people with intellectual and developmental challenges to come together to celebrate the community with a day of exploration and fun. This year, they will be holding "Community At Large" at the California Science Center. RSVP to Jennifer Haake, Development & Volunteer Coordinator for Valley Village at (818)587-9450, ext. 131 or by email at jennifer@vvc.org, by Novemberember 13th to volunteer for this event. Volunteers must be at least 18. Valley Village will be needing volunteers to help clients and staff navigate the museum, complete a scavenger hunt, and participate in outdoor games so they don't overcrowd any one area. Other volunteer jobs will include handing out snacks and waters as it might get hot during the event. Volunteers will need to arrive by 11:45 am and meet at the IMAX theatre in front of the California Science Center entrance where Valley Village will check everyone in and assign groups to explore the museum with. Most importantly, they hope that you have a blast exploring the museum with the clients and different agencies attending this fun-filled event. Parking is available but costs $12. If you volunteer far enough in advance, Valley Village can arrange for you to travel with one of the group houses by van from their office in Winnetka to the museum and back. Another option is to take the Metro Expo Line, which stops across the street from the Expo Park/USC Station.

Bring the Fun in Fundraise for Miry’s List’s Gratitude Gala

Over 68 million people worldwide have been forced to flee their homes due to violence or persecution. Each Novemberember, Miry's List, a nonprofit organization serving over 350 families who have recently resettled in America, recognizes leaders who have been impactful in making Los Angeles a more welcoming city for immigrants. On Novemberember 18 they have their Gratitude Gala hosted by Jenna Fischer, Honoring Chef Roy Choi, and awards presented by Evan Kleiman. They will serve Syrian-Californian Thanksgiving dinner and recognize leaders who have helped make their city a more welcoming for families resettling as refugees. Miry's List does not need volunteers for this event but they do need volunteers to help them fundraise for this beautiful event. 36th Annual Charity Auction

The Lakewood YMCA is searching for volunteers to help them put on their annual, flagship event, the Children's Charity Auction. At this year's event they are celebrating the 175 years that the YMCA has been serving its communities nationwide. This is an extravagant night with live auction, live band, and Decemberadent food, and so they need volunteers that are organized, energetic, and willing to pump up the audience and supporters. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. They are looking for volunteers to fulfill 5 hour shifts or less, and need a set up crew and an event crew. Some positions may require an orientation the week before to familiarize the volunteer with procedures. Otherwise, all other volunteers will be instructed on the day of the event. This event supports the financial assistance offerings we provide to children and families in the Lakewood, Long Beach, Cerritos, Downey, Paramount communities. Proceeds from the event will go towards the goal of providing over $150,000 in financial aid financially to children and families in their communities.

Join the Festivities at Parents’ Place Santa Photo Day

Parents’ Place provides information and education to improve knowledge so parents, caregivers, and professionals can become empowered, allowing them to advocate for their children more effectively. Their Santa Photo Day provides an opportunity for families and children with special needs to spend time with Santa on a one to one basis. Families are able to avoid the over-stimulating sights and sounds of standing in line at the mall. Parents’ Place cannot do the job that they do without the help from the Community. This event is a success because of volunteers like you who donate their time and support. Volunteers are needed all day or in shifts to greet families, help set up, clean up, run activities, and assist in Santa Picture Area. Please contact Tavia Lawson if you are interested, you will need to fill out volunteer application no later than December 2. They are also asking for donations of small toys and gifts their Santa can hand out to the children who go see him.
