Covenant House California is dedicated to serving all children, with absolute respect and unconditional love, to help youth experiencing homelessness, and to protect and safeguard all youth in need. They believe that no young person deserves to be homeless; that every young person in California deserves shelter, food, clothing, education… and most importantly, to be loved. And they believe that it is our responsibility, as a community, to ensure that young people are given the opportunities that they deserve to achieve their dreams. This year for the holidays, they are collecting toys for their little ones (the infants of their youth). They are in need of NEW Educational toys and books for children ages 6 months - 10 years. Support Aviva’s Annual Gift Drive for the Holidays
Aviva believes every child and every family in Los Angeles community deserves the chance for a brighter future. They provide compassionate support, therapeutic services, and guidance to at-risk children and families. Aviva's Annual Gift Drive provides gifts to clients newborn-18 who are currently receiving services at Aviva. They are asking for items that are new and unwrapped. Most of the children's legal guardians request for educational toys or toys that can assist the child during therapy. They would appreciate any of the following items provided on the flyer, which includes household items and hygiene items, or any of the following top requested items: play-doh, blocks, slime, stress balls, fidget toys, fidget spinner, kinetic sand, art supplies. Aviva will be accepting food donations during the holidays to distribute to clients and residents. Items needed: cereal, snacks (granola bars), water bottles, bread -fresh produce (fruits, vegetables), rice, legumes; preferably not canned (e.g. beans, chickpeas, lentils), peanut butter, flour, pancake mix, baby formula (Brand: Enfamil). All food donations will be accepted as long as they are not expired. Aviva has a small food pantry which they keep stocked as best they can. Brighten the Holidays and Donate Toys for Exceptional Children’s Foundation
ECF is holding its annual Toy Drive for infants, toddlers and K-12 students with special needs. They have an Amazon wish list to make shopping and delivery easy. Union Station Homeless Services is now collecting gifts for 400 children, ages ranging from newborn to 18 years. The theme this year is “something they want, something to wear, something to read”– toys for all age, playful socks, and new books. This year, they are also collecting gift cards for adults. Donate Toys for the Holidays to LAUSD (Utah Span School)
L.A Unified School District (Utah Span School) is hosting a Christmas event for their students (homeless, low income, Use ASL - American Sign Language, and in foster system). Their school is a span school which consists of grades TK-8th grade. During their event they would like to give each student an age appropriate toy! They are also looking for a Santa Claus suit (for one of our staff members to wear) to bring in more spirit and cheer to our event. You must wear a mask and be vaccinated. Entrance would be through parent center gates. Volunteers are needed to help setup and organize donated toys, hand out toys to children and teens at the event, decorate, pack food into bags, hand out bags of food, and assist with sign-in for the event. Please wear warm clothes, closed toe shoes, a mask and park in available spaces nearby. They are also are also in need of help with set up, packing bags of food, and distributing all food to families. Event will be outdoor/indoor with the possibility of changes based on Covid19 developments and weather. They are also in desperate need of new toys for both boys and girls ages 2-17 years. They always need toys for older children and teens as many people tend only to give toys for younger children. They are looking for cross age and gender neutral items as well, which work across ages. Items like board games, headphones, wireless speakers, sports equipment, and art supplies are big hits! Leggo sets are also always great! For teens, curling and straightening irons, headphones, gift cards, sports team sweatshirts, and college t-shirts and sweatshirts are always needed. A great way to make a big impact is to run your own toy drive with friends and family or at your workplace. Set a goal of 20-50 gifts. Last year they made sure 631 children received gifts for the holidays and received food for their families to enjoy a holiday meal at home. The mission of the East Los Angeles Women’s Center is to ensure that all women, girls and their families live in a place of safety, health, and personal well-being, free from violence and abuse, with equal access to necessary health services and social support, with an emphasis on Latino communities. They will be having In-person events for their families and are in need of donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their participants are low-income or/and homeless due to them fleeing their abuse and don't have much. At times they don't have enough funds for food or funds to purchase their children Holiday gifts. Their agency is the only hope their participants have in-order to celebrate these holidays. The East San Gabriel Valley SELPA Community Advisory Committees a group of volunteers (the majority of our members are parents of individuals with disabilities). They provide workshops, trainings, and events to families of children/young adults with disabilities. Help Celebrate Thanksgiving with Salesian Family Youth Center
Join Salesian Family Youth Center for their in-person Thanksgiving event where staff and volunteers prepare a lunch for all the children and their families from their program. They will separate all tables 5 feet apart and in order to walk away from the table masks must be worn. Masks and gloves are given to the volunteers serving food as well. They usually host between 60-80 people in their gym with games and entertainment present. They need help setting up and serving food the day of event. If vaccinated that would be helpful, if not we ask for a COVID test 48 hours or less prior to the start of event. They are looking for donations of turkeys to be able to cook for the community the day of the event, as well as give out to their families that might need turkeys for their own thanksgivings. They would also appreciate gifts that they can raffle off or give as prizes for our games! Also if you would like to support them in gift cards or money to be able to buy the table covers, centerpieces, serving trays, plates, utensils, napkins, cups, etc. With your donations you will receive a thank you letter that has all information for tax deductions. Many of their families are single parent households that look forward to these events so they can be with their friends from the programs. Every year U.S.VETS (Inglewood) hosts a festive holiday celebration for veterans and their families to come together. They are seeking donations of new toys and gifts for kids of all ages ranging from 5 to 17 years old. As many of their veterans are in recovery and working on themselves, they would otherwise be unable to provide their families with gifts. Therefore, your donations will directly support a veteran family in helping provide festive cheer and solace to veterans. Gifts can be pre-wrapped but they ask you write the item and intended age group on a sticky note for them to reference. Starting December 1st, the Karsh Family Social Center is collecting toys for its annual Holiday Toy Distribution! Their goal is to provide 500 children in the Koreatown community, ages 0-12, with holiday toys this year, and they need your help.
