Help the hungry find food by calling, emailing, and researching food pantries and soup kitchens for Food Oasis. Food Oasis is a website created by Hack for LA that aims to make it easy for people to both access and donate food, closing the food redistribution loop. This virtual volunteer opportunity occurs via Zoom. It starts off with a training where you'll learn about food insecurity and also how to gather the needed information. After that, you'll all spend an hour doing independent research. Finally, all volunteers will regroup to discuss. In the following week after the session, you are expected to follow up with any organizations you didn't catch. Weekdays are usually good. Los Angeles county has the largest number of food insecure people in the nation and yet wastes over one million tons of food a year! Your research will put mechanisms in place to stop that. REQUIREMENTS: You must be able to follow up with any non-responsive organizations throughout the following week.
