Angeles House is a new facility located in the center of South Los Angeles which opened this past April and is now the home to 86 families with children. Their Multi-Purpose room will be transformed into a festive Christmas shopping experience. Their guests will be given the opportunity to shop for free at the Hope Gardens Holidary Store. While it is wonderful to give gifts to sheltered youth, they want to make sure that the presents under the tree are not from the mission or from an unknown source. URM want to restore dignity back to parents by allowing them to select a gift for each child so that the Christmas presents under the tree are from them. Volunteers would either serve as elves helping to guide guests through the stores to find toys or as part of the wrapping team. Food Oasis is a website created by Hack for LA that aims to make it easy for people to both access and donate food, closing the food redistribution loop.This virtual volunteer opportunity occurs via Zoom. It starts off with a training where you'll learn about food insecurity and also how to gather the needed information. After that, you'll all spend an hour doing independent research.
