For over 50 years, everyone at Union Station Homeless Services has celebrated Thanksgiving with those in need. Dinner in the Park is a beloved holiday tradition that brings the community together over celebratory meals. They have a variety of volunteer shifts available to make Dinner in the Park happen this year! You and your friends, family, organization, or business can help out this year by preparing food, packaging meal boxes, carving turkeys, serving hot meals, and more!
Volunteer at the Thanksgiving Critter Camp at Helen Woodward Animal Center
Volunteer at the Thanksgiving Critter Camp this November 25-27 and help bring pet responsibility education to young children! This is a unique opportunity for high school students (grades 9-12) who are enthusiastic, reliable, and experienced in working with PreK-6th grade kids. As a Junior Volunteer, you'll assist with preparing materials, supervising activities, managing children's behavior, and supporting the camp instructor with lessons, crafts, and games. While you'll be working around animals, the focus is on engaging with children, so maturity, teamwork, and leadership skills are essential. Volunteer shifts run from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm (with some extended hours) across three days. All new volunteers must attend a mandatory training on November 25, and COVID-19 policies must be followed to ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone involved.
Volunteer at Hollywood Food Coalition’s Thanksgiving Dinner
This upcoming Thanksgiving Day, Hollywood Food Coalition will host our Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner where we will serve a seated turkey meal with all the fixings for 300 of our community members experiencing homelessness or food insecurity. Hundreds of volunteers will join together to provide a festive atmosphere with live music during what can be a particularly isolating time. In addition to a full Thanksgiving meal, there will be music, entertainment, additional services on site and distribution of hygiene items and clothing.

Prepare and Serve Lunch Meals with Union Rescue Mission at Angeles House
Help prepare and serve lunch at Union Rescue Missions Angeles House (South LA)! Angeles House is their new campus that opened in April 2022. Angeles House is the home of about 86 families in South Los Angeles. Help them prepare and serve breakfast meals, to those that are sheltered within their facility. You must be at least 14 years to volunteer in the kitchen. Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to have an adult chaperone present. The chaperone also must be registered.

Collect Toys for IDEPSCA’s Dia de Reyes Toy Drive
Our Mujeres en Accion program is planning a "Dia de Reyes" (Toys' Drive) event that will be hosted on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in the Pico Union neighborhood area in which we are planning to have about 50 families and distribute toys to approximately 100 children. We are seeking for monetary donations and/or new toys donations for children from 0-16 years old so we have enough toys that will be distributed with children of low income community members-workers who especially during the winter season have found hard to keep or find a job. At the event we are also planning to provide educational materials which will include: Health & safety and workers' rights, IDEPSCA has a long experience in creating educational materials in spanish and we are planning to provide a tote bag to each participant with educational materials that include: minimum wage, wage theft, know your rights booklet as well as other resources and information. Please donate unwrapped new toys for children from 1-16 years old. You can also donate money that can help us to purchase toys and breakfast for children and their moms the day of the event, you can use this link to donate. Support New Village Girls Academy’s Winterfest
Every year we have this Winterfest event where we open it up to the public, invite CBO's and other agencies that we partner with to come and give back to the community while also sharing all the resources available to them. We will have music, food, drinks, games and lots of giveaways. We would like to be able to give out toys, clothes, and any winter related items that the community may need.
Wrap Gifts For WHCH’s Christmas Holiday Gathering
West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (WHCHC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affordable housing development corporation founded in 1986. With the stability of housing, we transform the lives of low-income individuals and families. Today, WHCHC continues to serve West Hollywood and has expanded into Los Angeles and neighboring areas. This event is held for families on a yearly basis to provide dinner and toy gifts to every child in our building. Volunteers are needed to help wrap gifts for the kids. Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between food justice, environmental stewardship, and community health. By using the full transformative potential of school gardens as teaching sites, we nurture a healthy and mindful generation of children who care for their bodies, their communities, and the earth. We currently serve ten Title I elementary schools, reaching over 3,200 students and their families each year. As a GSF volunteer, you’ll play a indispensable role in maintaining our historic school garden at an elementary school in West Adams. Your work will help us maintain a space that is both educational and beautiful, and will positively impact both the environment and student growth. Join us to learn new skills, connect with nature, and enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding day with our local community. Together you’ll work alongside GSF staff and school families to weed the garden, refresh mulch pathways, harvest veggies from our production farm, build new raised beds, and more! After a morning of hard work and good vibes, we’ll share a light lunch together (provided by our partners at Sprouts) under the fig trees. Volunteers should wear close-toe shoes and loose, comfy clothes that are school-appropriate. Complimentary t-shirts will also be provided. We encourage volunteers to bring their own water bottles and sun protection.
