Lend a Hand with AHEAD With Horses’ Saturday Volunteer Program #4

Just because it's the holidays you can't forget their 4-legged friends! AHEAD With Horses needs volunteers every Saturday (unless otherwise noted) at their Shadow Hills facility. Volunteers will assist in providing developmental therapy to children with disabilities. Duties include: Leading horses, spotting (walking along side the horse), grooming, cleaning tack, weeding, raking, etc. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old and if under 18, an adult must come to sign a liability release form at their first session. Dress code: must wear closed-toe shoes, long pants and a shirt with sleeves (t-shirt is fine; no tank tops). If planning on staying the entire day (which is not mandatory), please bring water and a sack lunch. Questions? Please call Michelle at 818-767-6373.

Help Maintain Habitat Restoration Sites with Audubon Center at Debs Park

Come out and volunteer with Audobon! Join them in and around their native plant nursery where they propagate plants and maintain habitat restoration sites. Activities include watering, weeding, mulching, berm building and repair, seed collection, processing and sowing, potting, and planting. Learn about native plants and local bird species as you restore important native habitat within more than 17 acres around the center. Put your hands in some soil and bird while you build habitat! They need you, but more importantly, their neighBIRDS need you! Be sure to bring lots of water, sun protection, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty! Remember to wear closed-toe shoes and dress in layers. Please fill out the downloadable waiver below and bring it with you to your first day.

Participate in the Lung Force Walk to Aid those with Lung Disease

This holiday season remember those touched by lung cancer. The Lung Force Walk is raising awareness and funds to help those impacted by lung cancer and other lung diseases, including asthma and COPD. With an inspiring signature song and music, they will celebrate the collective power of their breath. Voices will soar as the community rallies friends, neighbors and colleagues to raise their voices against lung cancer and for lung health for everyone. Funds raised will support research, advocacy, education and awareness for those impacted by lung disease. With your help, the dollars raised can help researchers develop better early detection methods, treatments and ultimately, cures. The event is Nov. 18 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and begins with participant check-in and festivities including LUNG FORCE Action Passport to interactive education areas, fun games and activities, musical performances, and a wonderful 5K walk in the park with a LUNG FORCE loop option, a shorter route for those with breathing difficulties.

Help Coach Special Needs Youth at KEEN- Kids Enjoy Exercise Now

Play sports and help coach special needs youth in various athletic activities. KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) is a nonprofit organization that provides one-to-one recreational opportunities for children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities. KEEN L.A.s mission is to foster the self-esteem, confidence, skills and talents of its athletes through non-competitive activities. Volunteer Project: Get your game on! Play soccer, gymnastics, basketball, frisbee, zumba, yoga, track and field and more with KEEN athletes between the ages of 5 and 21. Volunteer Role & Responsibilities: L.A. Works volunteers get matched with KEEN athletes and play various recreational activities that are tailored to each athlete's needs and designed to promote the athlete's sense of accomplishment. Bring some encouragement and positivity to these youth and show them a fun time! Special Note: Volunteer coaches do not need any prior experience working with disabled individuals, but having a patient, spirited and kind-hearted presence is required. Age Requirement: Volunteers for this project must be at least 15 years of age. Minors: Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian a Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors.

Support Students Run American dba Students Run LA with their Community Service Projects

Students Run LA is hosting a 15K race. While runners are welcome and encouraged to register, they are also hosting two community service projects through their SRLA Cares program and they would love public participating. First, they are hosting a light bulb exchange. Bring an old incandescent light bulb to exchange for a brand new LED one. Please email naomi@srla.org to sign up! Let's be energy wise and better on the eyes! Bring an old LED light bulb and receive a brand new LED one. While they are not limiting quantity on the exchange, this is while supplies last. Second, they are collecting canned goods for Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission. Canned food must not be expired.
