Help Distribute Hygiene Essentials to the Unhoused with Project Ropa

Project Ropa operates the only Mobile Clothing Closet of its kind in the Los Angeles area. Their retrofitted van delivers hope as well as hygiene kits, drinking water and a full selection of men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories all neatly displayed on racks and shelves to unhoused and low-income individuals and families at service sites in Echo Park and Hollywood. At each location they operate in tandem with other mobile service providers which include showers, haircuts, ID replacement, food pantries, medical and dental clinics and employment and housing resources. In Echo Park, their events take place on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of each month. Volunteers will help with distributing clothing and personal hygiene essentials directly to those in need at their service locations. Project Ropa staff will be on-site at all times during services. Create Hygiene Kits with Project Ropa

Project Ropa is a nonprofit organization that helps restore dignity, rekindle optimism and empower the lives of people experiencing homelessness by providing clean clothes, hygiene kits and drinking water in a safe, humane and dignified way. They are looking for assistance creating hygiene kits to distribute to their unhoused neighbors. This can be done remotely by putting together items in a ziploc bag, tote bag or reusable grocery bag. (Please note: Items for the hygiene kits will not be provided by them.) They recommend reaching out to your network of friends and family to source the items. A list of what to include is provided on the website below. Once completed you can mail your kits to them at: Project Ropa, 2851 W 120th Street, Suite E #566, Hawthorne, CA 90250. Alternatively, drop-off hours at their warehouse are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9am-3pm and on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 10am-1pm. Unless otherwise specified they accept new and gently used clothing and shoes. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. The Lucky Duck Food and Water Initiative has distributed over 1.4 million meals to San Diego’s unsheltered neighbors since May 2020. Volunteers help pack, sort, and load food and water for homeless outreach teams to distribute throughout San Diego County. Volunteers also sort and distribute items like face shields, masks, hygiene kits, EMPWR Coats, and clothing. Volunteers are critical to making the program happen, so please consider signing up! Volunteer bagging shifts take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00-3:00pm at the San Diego Rescue Mission Warehouse (212 East 26th Street, National City, CA 91950). Note: though it is most helpful if you can volunteer for 3 hours, you do not need to sign up for all 3 hours, you can volunteer in 1-hour increments.
