With the stability of housing, we transform the lives of low-income individuals and families. Today, WHCHC continues to serve West Hollywood and has expanded into Los Angeles and neighboring areas. Volunteer for the Door of Hope Christmas Festival
Let's have some fun! Our annual Christmas Festival, an event to which all Door of Hope families are invited, is scheduled for Saturday, December 14 at Maranatha High School in Pasadena. This year's theme is ÒChristmas Around the World,Ó and we need volunteers to host booths with specific foods Ð everything from tasty main dishes to Christmas-themed desserts.

Join the Bolsa Chica Conservancy at their weekly Live Animal Feedings to witness firsthand the feeding behavior of California native animals! If you're looking to get out of the house and learn about local animals, join them in person for their weekly live animal feeding! Here you will be able to learn more about the animals at the Interpretive Center, including snakes, sharks, crabs, and much more! During the feeding, they will cover topics like feeding habits and the general biology and anatomy of reptiles and marine animals! This is a free event but donations are always welcome to help with the cost of caring for and feeding their animals. They hope to see you there! Spaces are very limited due to COVID-19 social distancing protocols, so please contact [email protected] if you can no longer attend. *This presentation may also be recorded and live-streamed on their YouTube channel and Facebook Live. Provide Toys and Other Basic Goods For New Image’s Christmas Store
Toys are being requested for the New Image Emergency Shelter for the Homeless, Inc. (New Image), 30th Annual Children's Christmas Store. This program provides toys, a pair of shoes, supermarket gift cards, refreshments, and a visit with Santa for over 2,400 children who have been pre-qualified as the "neediest" from homeless, unhoused, and low-income families. The event is called a Ôstore' because the children are allowed to Ôshop' for their toys; however, all items are FREE. Additionally, parents of families of 4 or more, receive supermarket gift cards so they can purchase food for the holidays as well. This is a private event (Families must be referred by an agency. Please do not post as an invitation to attend. Toys and Volunteers are needed). New Image is seeking volunteer Elves for it 30th Annual Children's Christmas Store, which will serve over 2,000 children from homeless and low-income families. Because of the Covid-19 Pandemic, once again this year's Christmas store will bring extra challenges. We are looking for upbeat Elves, who will be overjoyed to bring happiness to many underserved children, and be willing to volunteer on December 19 and 20th for the purpose of setting up the (2) Ballrooms and creating a Winter Wonderland.

Assemble Christmas Food Packages For Low-Income Folks at LARFB
Volunteers will assemble food packages for over 29,000 low income seniors, women with infants, and children in Los Angeles County. The food packages consist of food items like canned fruit, canned vegetables, rice, cereal and other non-perishable food items. Please sign-up using the registration link. No walk-ins allowed.

Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between food justice, environmental stewardship, and community health. By using the full transformative potential of school gardens as teaching sites, we nurture a healthy and mindful generation of children who care for their bodies, their communities, and the earth. We currently serve ten Title I elementary schools, reaching over 3,200 students and their families each year. As a GSF volunteer, you’ll play a indispensable role in maintaining our historic school garden at an elementary school in West Adams. Your work will help us maintain a space that is both educational and beautiful, and will positively impact both the environment and student growth. Join us to learn new skills, connect with nature, and enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding day with our local community. Together you’ll work alongside GSF staff and school families to weed the garden, refresh mulch pathways, harvest veggies from our production farm, build new raised beds, and more! After a morning of hard work and good vibes, we’ll share a light lunch together (provided by our partners at Sprouts) under the fig trees. Volunteers should wear close-toe shoes and loose, comfy clothes that are school-appropriate. Complimentary t-shirts will also be provided. We encourage volunteers to bring their own water bottles and sun protection.

Help adults transitioning out of homelessness enjoy their own Christmas celebration. Serve a festive holiday meal, host a cheerful bingo game, and hand out gift cards and prizes to bring extra joy to this special time of year! YOUR IMPACT: For many adults experiencing homelessness, the holiday season can feel isolating. Additionally, the cost of a Christmas meal is often out of reach for our participants. By providing a full holiday meal and organizing a fun, community-focused activity, you’re helping spread joy and create lasting memories for individuals in need.
