| Other Ways to Help | November 5, 2018

Come get your hands dirty at the next Community Garden Day, held at the beautiful 1.5 acre garden at 24th Street Elementary School! Volunteers will spend the morning beautifying  1.5 acre garden by weeding, mulching, watering, planting seeds, and more. At November’s CGD you will be planting trees and prepping the garden for winter. November’s event will also feature fun activities for the whole family including an interactive cooking demo, educational harvesting session, arts and crafts, guided wellness actives, and more. You will also share a healthy lunch together in the garden.  Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based learning to youth at Title 1 schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between education, food justice, environmental awareness, and healthy communities. There is ample street parking by the school. The garden is located at the back of the school, past the playground. You can enter the school through the parking lot with the GSF banner out front. Follow the chalk signs through the metal door, around the cafeteria, and past the basketball hoops to the garden., Volunteers should wear close toe shoes and loose, comfy clothes that are school appropriate. They encourage volunteers to bring their own water bottle and sunscreen. They will provide light refreshments and all necessary tools and supplies. You don’t need any gardening experience to participate – just a willingness to get dig in and get those hands dirty!
