Help the Hungry Find Food with Online Reseach with Food Oasis

Help the hungry find food by calling, emailing, and researching food pantries and soup kitchens for Food Oasis. Food Oasis is a website created by Hack for LA that aims to make it easy for people to both access and donate food, closing the food redistribution loop. This virtual volunteer opportunity occurs via Zoom. It starts off with a training where you'll learn about food insecurity and also how to gather the needed information. After that, you'll all spend an hour doing independent research. Finally, all volunteers will regroup to discuss. In the following week after the session, you are expected to follow up with any organizations you didn't catch. Weekdays are usually good. Los Angeles county has the largest number of food insecure people in the nation and yet wastes over one million tons of food a year! Your research will put mechanisms in place to stop that. Help Tutor 1st – 8th Grade Students with Project 614?۪s Virtual Tutoring Center

The mission of Project 614?۪s Virtual Tutoring Center is to close the gap in academic readiness for under-resourced children and restore confidence in their ability to succeed. They encourage students at their current skill level. They empower parents to support their children by sharing resources. They demonstrate empathy and compassion with our words and actions. They celebrate student progress! VOLUNTEER PROJECT: After completing this orientation, you will meet with your student 1-2 times per week based on your availability. Sessions are 45minutes - 1 hour, depending on the families?۪ preference. You will also be given access to resources to meet your students?۪ needs as well as a ??session journal?۝ to help track your student's growth.This year has highlighted many injustices in the nation, one of which lies within our public education system. Project 614 partners with volunteers and other local programs to assist in making quality education more accessible. Volunteers like you help bridge the education gap. Let?۪s build together! Teach Computer Skills to Low Income Families

More kids are online schooling than ever, but not all guardians know how to help them with tech issues. Give Spanish-speaking guardians the tech-smarts they need to ensure their kids?۪ success. Aviva Famiy and Children's Services exists to uplift and serve LA families, especially during the hardships of the COVID-19 crisis. They specialize in services like crisis intervention, mental health, foster and adoption, and supportive housing for women and children. A big part of the achievement gap for Latinx students is lack of access to technology. If there are tech challenges, the child whose parent can help them navigate those is going to surpass the child whose parent cannot. You can help close the achievement gap for Latinx students by teaching Spanish-speaking guardians basic computer skills. In this virtual volunteer opportunity, you will assist Spanish-speaking parents with basic computer skills. A lesson will be instructed by the Project Leader, and then you?۪ll break out into small groups to mentor your partner(s) as they complete different activities. The whole group will then reassemble to discuss their experiences. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Must be 21+ years old, Spanish-speaking ability required and Must be comfortable using internet, email, google suite, and social media.
