Empower Children Through the Arts for the Holidays

The mission of Free Arts is to use art to restore hope, resilience and self-esteem in children in Los Angeles ages 4-18 who have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty and/or homelessness. They depend on a team of committed volunteers to make this possible. If you would like to spend a few hours a week this Holiday Season doing art projects with children as they wait for their hearings in dependency court you can attend the volunteer mentor training on either November 19th or December 17th from 12 to 3pm at the Edmund D. Host a Holiday Meal Service at The Illumination Foundation’s Recuperative Care Center

The Illumination Foundation Recuperative Care Center is a 24-hour shelter for homeless adults recovering from acute medical conditions. Clients look forward to having groups host a meal service, especially around the holidays. they ask for the group hosting the meal service to provide the food, utensils and paperware for the event and prepare to feed ~ 50 Adults. Meals can be hosted any day of the week, including weekends, and usually takes place between 4:30 pm _ 7:30 pm but times can be flexible. Groups can also bring board games, art activities, and plan workshops, anything that give their clients a fun and positive experience. No children under the age of 18 allowed at this center. Join Venice Family Clinic for their Children’s Holiday Movie

Children's Holiday Movie, presented by Anthem Blue Cross, raises $170,000 for their pediatric programs to ensure that their youngest patients have access to all of the services necessary to keep families and children healthy. As a part of this event, they also create a special holiday celebration for 1,200 pediatric patients and their families. They will enjoy a private screening of a childrens holiday movie, holiday entertainment and gift bags with books and toys. The theater, entertainment and toys for the event are all underwritten, so all proceeds go to supporting Venice Family Clinic pediatrics. Volunteers are needed in the weeks leading up to the event to unbox and sort thousands of toys and books that will be gifted to children at the event. Most of our needs for this require some heaving lifting required. Up to 10 volunteers per shift as space allows. Volunteers will help sort, box, and prepare toys for thousands of pediatric patients. One Dec. 1st, volunteers will assist by loading and unloading event supplies at our clinic in Venice and at the Howard Hughes Center in preparation for the event. Support Low-income Students Recieve a Thanksgiving Meal

Edison has over 1300 students; 100% qualify for free lunch. Edison Middle School is more than an educational institution in their community; it serves as a hub for resources for students and their families. As a community school, one of their values is to assist their families with their everyday needs. They serve a largely immigrant population with a high unemployment rate, many of their students do not have a Thanksgiving meal to look forward to over the holidays. Their goal is to provide 50 turkeys and food baskets to their neediest families. They are seeking donations of: turkeys, ham, gift cards, school supplies to donate during the event. Not only will your contribution be publicly recognized during the event, but this will also be a great opportunity for you to engage with the Edison community! Drop off location will be Thomas A. Edison Middle School in the main office. Ask for Estephania Vazquez Our teachers and 6th grade Counselor will identify 50 families in need of a Thanksgiving meal. All Peoples Community Center will host its annual Thanksgiving community dinner on Wednesday November 14 from 2pm-7pm. All Peoples is seeking volunteers for varying shifts from 10:00am-8:00pm. Volunteers will be asked to perform specific duties that may include and but be limited to: Setup-Setting up the room with tables and chairs to accommodate all community members. Registration-Checking in all community members and communicating count with staff. Meal service- Preparing the plates to ensure all community members receive a meal. Seating- Helping community members find a table to sit and making sure the flow of exiting and entering guests moves smoothly. Clean-up- From table clean-up to table break down, all hands on deck are needed! They understand folks may only be able to volunteer a limited amount of time and thats fine! Keeping this in mind, they have created shifts that are flexible. Help American Family Housing with their Thanksgiving Dinner Drive

American Family Housing (AFH) is a nonprofit that provides housing and supportive services to homeless and low-income families, individuals and veterans in Orange and Los Angeles counties. AFH is partnered with a few local supermarkets to fundraise donation that will go towards providing a complete Thanksgiving dinner to formerly homeless and low-income families and veterans in Orange County. These families face financial difficulties and your act of kindness will spread some joy to these families this holiday season! Donate Items to the Community Center of La Cadada Flintridge’s Huge Foothill Holiday Food Drive

The Community Center of La Cadada Flintridge spearheads the largest Food Drive in the Foothill communities just in time for the holidays! Canned food is collected during the month of November at locations in La Cadada, La Crescenta and Montrose. Non-perishable food donations are distributed by the Crescenta Valley Sheriffs Station to local families in need. Drop off your food donations at the Community Center of La Cadada Flintridge during the month of November or bring your food donations to the Thanksgiving Day Run & Food Drive at Memorial Park. In 2017, the food collected served over 160 families.
