AHEAD With Horses is a non-profit developmental therapeutic vaulting program for children with all types of disabilities in the Los Angeles area. They have been serving children for over 50 years! They are in need of donations of cement, wheelbarrow, garden hose, rakes, shovels, and other farm items. All of the donations made will go directly towards creating their new facility so that all of the children will be able to benefit from their developmental therapeutic services. Did you know that nearly 1 million adults in Los Angeles face literacy or language barriers? Join the LA Public Library to share your love of reading and: -- Learn new skills! They provide all the training, materials, and support you'll need to be effective. -- Meet lots of great people from different cultures and places. -- Face challenges and learn how to overcome them. -- Develop (or grow!) a passion for learning and teaching others. -- Create real and meaningful change in your own community. -- Gain great experience that can be applied in multiple job fields. All volunteer walk-in tutors receive free training and materials. They ask for 2 to 3 hours a week for a minimum of 2 months.All volunteers must be at least 18.

Become an LGBTQ Victim Advocacy Volunteer

Advocate for LGBTQ survivors of intimate partner violence. The victim advocate/event coordinator will interact with people who come into the center for walk-ins or who have general questions about the program, assist advocates in providing crisis intervention, referrals and linkages to services to clients as needed, provide advocacy and court support when necessary, explain and guide through Victim’s Compensation Board Application as needed for clients who ask for application assistance, and participate in preparation of outreach materials as well as attending street and organizational outreaches such as resource fairs, health fairs and workshop presentations. Volunteers are also responsible for maintaining statistical information such as group sign-ins and outreach log-in sheets, participating in trainings serving Domestic Violence, LGBTQ+, Criminal System, Legal Advocacy etc, researching and staying updated with upcoming events/fundraisers/workshops relevant to domestic violence and the LGBTQ+ community, helping with prevention based work such as providing Domestic Violence 101, DV + LGBTQ, and Healthy Relationships 101 presentations, and providing clerical support and answering calls that come into the outreach center. Volunteers must be at least 18.

Help Out at the Nature Center Information Desk at the Eaton Canyon Nature Center

Responsibilities include answering questions from visitors (mostly about where the bathroom is and where the trail goes), selling items from the gift shop, answering phone calls and showing visitors around the nature center One-on-one training is provided. Additional opportunities, including leading nature walks, are available for volunteers who complete Docent Training (requires successful completion of the 10 week Docent Training Class, typically offered in the spring). Volunteer shifts are either 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Sundays or 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Some weekday shifts may be available. Volunteers must be at least 18 and commit to a minimum of 4 hours/month.
