Ascencia served over 1,200 people experiencing homelessness every year, and just last year they placed 169 families into permanent supporting housing. Ascencia relies on donations from the community to fund their life-saving programs including street outreach, case management, emergency housing, mental health and wellness services, and more. Collect Toys for IDEPSCA’s Dia de Reyes Toy Drive
Our Mujeres en Accion program is planning a "Dia de Reyes" (Toys' Drive) event that will be hosted on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in the Pico Union neighborhood area in which we are planning to have about 50 families and distribute toys to approximately 100 children. We are seeking for monetary donations and/or new toys donations for children from 0-16 years old so we have enough toys that will be distributed with children of low income community members-workers who especially during the winter season have found hard to keep or find a job. At the event we are also planning to provide educational materials which will include: Health & safety and workers' rights, IDEPSCA has a long experience in creating educational materials in spanish and we are planning to provide a tote bag to each participant with educational materials that include: minimum wage, wage theft, know your rights booklet as well as other resources and information. Please donate unwrapped new toys for children from 1-16 years old. You can also donate money that can help us to purchase toys and breakfast for children and their moms the day of the event, you can use this link to donate. Support New Village Girls Academy’s Winterfest
Every year we have this Winterfest event where we open it up to the public, invite CBO's and other agencies that we partner with to come and give back to the community while also sharing all the resources available to them. We will have music, food, drinks, games and lots of giveaways. We would like to be able to give out toys, clothes, and any winter related items that the community may need.
Watch Bolsa Chica Conservancy’s Live Animal Feeding
Join the Bolsa Chica Conservancy at their weekly Live Animal Feedings to witness firsthand the feeding behavior of California native animals! If you're looking to get out of the house and learn about local animals, join them in person for their weekly live animal feeding! Here you will be able to learn more about the animals at the Interpretive Center, including snakes, sharks, crabs, and much more! During the feeding, they will cover topics like feeding habits and the general biology and anatomy of reptiles and marine animals! This is a free event but donations are always welcome to help with the cost of caring for and feeding their animals. They hope to see you there! Spaces are very limited due to COVID-19 social distancing protocols, so please contact [email protected] if you can no longer attend. *This presentation may also be recorded and live-streamed on their YouTube channel and Facebook Live. Wrap Gifts For WHCH’s Christmas Holiday Gathering
West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation (WHCHC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affordable housing development corporation founded in 1986. With the stability of housing, we transform the lives of low-income individuals and families. Today, WHCHC continues to serve West Hollywood and has expanded into Los Angeles and neighboring areas. This event is held for families on a yearly basis to provide dinner and toy gifts to every child in our building. Volunteers are needed to help wrap gifts for the kids. Garden School Foundation provides in-depth garden-based education to youth at Title I schools in Los Angeles, strengthening connections between food justice, environmental stewardship, and community health. By using the full transformative potential of school gardens as teaching sites, we nurture a healthy and mindful generation of children who care for their bodies, their communities, and the earth. We currently serve ten Title I elementary schools, reaching over 3,200 students and their families each year. As a GSF volunteer, you’ll play a indispensable role in maintaining our historic school garden at an elementary school in West Adams. Your work will help us maintain a space that is both educational and beautiful, and will positively impact both the environment and student growth. Join us to learn new skills, connect with nature, and enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding day with our local community. Together you’ll work alongside GSF staff and school families to weed the garden, refresh mulch pathways, harvest veggies from our production farm, build new raised beds, and more! After a morning of hard work and good vibes, we’ll share a light lunch together (provided by our partners at Sprouts) under the fig trees. Volunteers should wear close-toe shoes and loose, comfy clothes that are school-appropriate. Complimentary t-shirts will also be provided. We encourage volunteers to bring their own water bottles and sun protection.
